Schedule a Class or Workshop at Skeuomorph!

As we head into a new school year, remember that Skeuomorph Press welcomes classes, workshops, and researchers for hands-on sessions in book history, media studies, material culture, and book arts. In addition to our letterpress materials, we have collections and supplies in book binding, zine making, risograph, typewriters, word processing, and early home computing.

If you have a class you’d like to bring to the press—or if you’d like to arrange a workshop or other activity—reach out to us at skeuomorph-press@illinois.edu to discuss. In addition, look for activities sponsored by the Skeuomorphics, a new registered student organization led by undergrad Aaron Mukhopadhyay, and please share them with your students! Finally, will be open during the FabLab’s community hours (at least) Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5-9pm and Sundays 1-5pm, and we are hoping to add at least one additional evening.

We hope to see you this academic year!

A spontaneous round of applause erupts as University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students see that their hard work actually worked during a test run. The students got a hands-on experience with the historical technologies used for printing by setting their own type and graphics using hand presses housed at the Fab Lab during a session with Professor Ryan Cordell. This group of students were from Professor Lori Newcomb’s FA22 ENGL 524 class, as the apply the concepts of Early modern Britain human embodiment and how that was delivered by the printing technology of the time.
